WARDOGS tanks: the L2A6, T-72B3, Gepard and SPH-2, with every unlock level, price and kill reward BULKHEAD has published
WARDOGS tanks after Season 2 are the L2A6, the T-72B3 main battle tank (Driver level 20, $250,000 to unlock, $16,000 each), the Flakpanzer Gepard anti-air vehicle (Driver 25, $300,000, $14,000) and the SPH-2 artillery (Driver 31, $350,000). The L2A6 now costs $22,000 per purchase. Every tank pays the enemy half its price when destroyed.
Every number on this page comes from BULKHEAD's Season 02 patch notes of 14 October 2026, the Season 1 changelog of 9 September, or a named press report. Where BULKHEAD has not published something, such as armour values, speeds or ammunition counts, the page says so instead of guessing. For every other vehicle in the game, the WARDOGS vehicles page has the full garage; this page covers only the armour.
Tanks became the story of Season 2's first day. A Driver XP exploit let a small number of players reach them within hours, and BULKHEAD answered with a backend fix, 24-hour bans and a plan for 'limited mode' servers without tanks. Both are covered below, after the tables.
The four tanks, in one table
Season 2 doubled the armour in the game. Before 14 October, the Season 1 changelog named only two tracked vehicles: a 'Heavy Tank' and an 'Artillery Tank'. The Season 02 notes use model names, add two new tanks, and for the first time separate three different prices: the one-time unlock cost, the vendor price you pay every time you buy one, and the reward the enemy receives for destroying it.
The table puts all three side by side. A dash means the notes do not give that value. BULKHEAD's own one-line descriptions are quoted where they exist.

| Tank | BULKHEAD's description | Unlock (track and level) | One-time unlock cost | Vendor price per purchase | Reward to the enemy for destroying it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| L2A6 | — (the Season 2 notes name it as the tank Drivers work toward) | Not restated in Season 2 (see the next section) | — | $22,000 (was $14,000) | $11,000 (was $14,000) |
| T-72B3 (new in Season 2) | 'A main battle tank. Slower than the L2A6, but cheaper and slightly more fuel-efficient.' | Driver 20 | $250,000 | $16,000 | $8,000 |
| Flakpanzer Gepard (new in Season 2) | 'Anti Air Vehicle.' | Driver 25 | $300,000 | $14,000 | $7,000 |
| SPH-2 (artillery) | — | Driver 31 (was WARDOG level 90) | $350,000 (was $500,000) | — | $8,000 (was $14,000) |
When you can drive one: the Driver levels and the XP behind them
All four tanks sit on the Driver progression track, which pays XP for driving, logistics and, since Season 2, for artillery fire and for repairing ground vehicles ('Artillery now gives driver XP instead of support'; 'Repair XP now goes into the driver or pilot tracks depending on the vehicle being repaired'). The notes describe the new order directly: 'Drivers who prefer armed vehicles now have more ways to get kills before reaching the L2A6. The new Wolf-110 [M2 Browning] unlocks at level 16, followed by two new tanks: the T-72B3 at level 20 and the Flakpanzer Gepard at level 25. The SPH-2 also moves into the Driver track at level 31, down from WARDOG level 90.'
The L2A6's own level is not in the Season 2 notes. The Season 1 changelog moved the 'Heavy Tank' from Career level 35 to Driver level 35, and the Season 2 sentence above places the L2A6 after the Gepard at 25. Driver 35 is therefore the likely level, but BULKHEAD has never written 'Heavy Tank = L2A6', so treat it as our inference rather than a published fact.
Season 2 also made every role track faster. The XP totals below are BULKHEAD's own Season 1 and Season 2 figures; the right-hand column shows which tank each level opens. Level 31 is not in BULKHEAD's table, so the SPH-2 sits between the level 30 and level 35 figures.
| Driver level | Season 1 total XP | Season 2 total XP | How much quicker (BULKHEAD) | Tank at this level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 250,000 | 111,500 | 55% | T-72B3 |
| 25 | 365,000 | 206,600 | 43% | Flakpanzer Gepard |
| 30 | 500,000 | 318,200 | 36% | — (SPH-2 at 31, between these rows) |
| 35 | 750,000 | 525,000 | 30% | L2A6, if it is the Season 1 'Heavy Tank' |
Price against payout: what a lost tank costs both sides
The Season 2 notes list a separate destroy reward for every vehicle variant. For three of the four tanks the reward is exactly half the vendor price: the L2A6 sells for $22,000 and pays its killer $11,000, the T-72B3 $16,000 and $8,000, and the Gepard $14,000 and $7,000. The SPH-2's vendor price is not in the notes; its destroy reward fell from $14,000 to $8,000.
BULKHEAD's stated aim is that 'armed variants are worth far more than unarmed ones'. Armed variants also give 1.5 times the XP of a default variant, and 'Attack Vehicle rewards also increase the more kills they get, so hunting down an artillery dominating your team will still feel rewarding.' The notes do not give the size of that increase, so no figure for a high-kill tank appears here.
In practice, a tank is a $16,000 to $22,000 bet each time it leaves the vendor, and every enemy with a launcher is looking at an $8,000 to $11,000 payday. That is why the anti-armour prices in the counters section below matter as much as the tank prices.

Season 2's first day: the Driver XP exploit that put tanks everywhere
Season 2 went live on 15 October 2026 as update 0.2.0. Within a day, players were reporting tanks in matches far earlier than the new curve intended. PCGamesN's Ken Allsop summarised BULKHEAD's own video response on 16 October: players set a FOB close by and drove short, rapid trips back and forth to level the Driver track fast. That reached the tank unlocks very early, and combined with the new, cheaper T-72B3, Drivers dominated before other roles had their countermeasures.
BULKHEAD's response, as PCGamesN reported it, had three parts. A backend update fixed the exploit, adjusted Driver progression and removed the Blue team's cash and XP bonus. Players who used the trick 'extremely obtusely' received a 24-hour ban. CEO Joe Brammer estimated that 'less than a thousand people' were affected, out of the hundreds of thousands who had logged in since the season began.
Brammer did not soften it: 'We were wrong, we fucked up.' Two practical points for players follow. As reported, the bans targeted players who used the trick 'extremely obtusely', not everyone who ran deliveries that day. And the same patch notes already list logistics changes aimed at shuttle-farming: delivery rewards are lower per run, with streak bonuses for real return trips. Our logistics page explains those streaks.
This was a mistake, this one was probably us being a bit boneheaded.
— Joe Brammer, BULKHEAD CEO, as quoted by PCGamesN, 16 October 2026
What the patch notes give infantry against armour
No source we have publishes a tank's armour values, its health, or how many rockets kill it. What the notes do publish is the price and unlock level of the tools that are meant to answer armour, and several Season 2 changes that affect the fight. The table lists only items with published numbers.
- Explosives and placeables 'can no longer be used from enclosed vehicle seats', so a tank crew cannot throw C4 or lay traps from inside.
- BULKHEAD cut how much the tanks' roof guns hurt infantry: 'Heavy and Artillery top machine turrets were using the same hit-location values as the helicopter cannon' and now 'use the same hit-location values as assault rifles and LMGs.'
- The planned limited-mode servers (last section) remove tanks entirely, which is BULKHEAD's own admission that low-level players had too little to fight them with.
| Tool | Track and level | Unlock cost | Price per purchase | Season 2 change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MAAWS | Support 18 (was 20) | $100,000 (was $125,000) | $2,400 (was $2,600) | Earlier and cheaper |
| RPG-7 | Not restated | — | $1,800 (was $2,000) | Cheaper |
| Remote Detonator + C4 Charge | Assault 4 (moved from Support 2) | — | — | 'IED/C4 now give assault XP instead of support' |
| Tank traps (buildable) | — | — | — | 'Can only be placed on a defined set of surfaces' |
| Flakpanzer Gepard, Vanguard CIWS, Talon 9K-SAM | Gepard Driver 25 | Gepard $300,000 | Gepard $14,000 | Anti-air, not anti-tank: they answer helicopters |
The SPH-2: artillery moved from the end of the game to the middle
The SPH-2 is the clearest change in the armour list. In Season 1 the 'Artillery Tank' was a Career unlock at level 90 for $500,000, after the launch changelog had already pushed it from level 55 and $400,000. BULKHEAD explained that move as part of the 'big ticket items' that 'the top 5%' would grind for. Season 2 reverses it: the SPH-2 is now Driver level 31 and $350,000.
Two more Season 2 lines change who runs artillery. Artillery fire now earns Driver XP instead of Support XP, so the artillery player levels the same track that unlocks it. And its destroy reward fell from $14,000 to $8,000, while BULKHEAD promised that Attack Vehicle rewards rise with each kill, so an artillery piece that dominates a match becomes a bigger target.
None of our sources publishes the SPH-2's range, shell count, reload time or vendor price. For indirect fire with published numbers, the FOB mortar has a community-measured range formula, covered on the mortar page.
| Document | Name used | Unlock | Unlock cost | Destroy reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Before launch (per Season 1 changelog) | Artillery Tank | Career 55 | $400,000 | — |
| Season 1 changelog, 9 Sep 2026 | Artillery Tank | Career 90 | $500,000 | — |
| Season 02 Patch Notes, 14 Oct 2026 | SPH-2 | Driver 31 (from WARDOG 90) | $350,000 | $8,000 (was $14,000) |
The Gepard and the T-72B3: what the two new tanks are for
The two Season 2 tanks are not upgrades of each other. The T-72B3 is BULKHEAD's budget main battle tank: 'Slower than the L2A6, but cheaper and slightly more fuel-efficient.' At $16,000 against the L2A6's $22,000 it is $6,000 cheaper per purchase, and it unlocks 15 Driver levels earlier if the L2A6 is still at 35. It also pays the enemy $3,000 less when it dies. The notes list a buildable Repair / Refuel Station, but they publish no fuel capacity or burn rate for any tank, so 'slightly more fuel-efficient' cannot yet be put in numbers.
The Flakpanzer Gepard is described in two words: 'Anti Air Vehicle.' It is the only anti-air vehicle the patch notes name, alongside the buildable Vanguard CIWS and Talon 9K-SAM. The air-defence balance has moved several times. On 2 October BULKHEAD hotfixed the CIWS so it 'now destroys the havoc in around 6 seconds as opposed to 12', admitting it had 'overcorrected this in the previous patch'. Season 2 then cut the CIWS destroy reward from $3,000 to $1,200 and its damage to the spawn vehicle, which now 'takes 2.25x longer to kill'. No Gepard damage or range figures are published.
Season 2's general vehicle changes apply to all four tanks: 'Tracked vehicles now feel weightier - less floaty when in the air, less bouncy on landing', 'Tanks no longer launch themselves into the air from their own turret collision', and the inventories of purchased vehicles are 'now private to the driver and their squad by default', so the ammunition in your tank is no longer free for anyone who walks past.
Limited mode servers, and what is still unpublished
BULKHEAD's longer-term answer to tanks at low levels is a new server type. According to PCGamesN's 16 October report, mid-season update 0.25 is planned to bring what the studio tentatively calls 'limited mode servers'. They would replace the low-level servers and remove level-four armour, power weapons, and vehicles such as tanks and artillery. Brammer: 'All that stuff is going to be capped out of the game so you can continue to play level-two armor.' No date for 0.25 had been posted on Steam when we read the feed on 1 November 2026, so check the WARDOGS news page for the patch notes.
These tank facts are not published anywhere we can cite: armour thickness or health, rockets or C4 needed per kill, top speed, crew seats, main-gun ammunition, fuel capacity, and whether the SPH-2 has a vendor price. Guides elsewhere state some of these with confidence. Without a BULKHEAD source or a documented test, we leave them out. When BULKHEAD publishes them, they will be added to the tables above with the date.
- Before you grind: check the Driver level you need (20, 25, 31, likely 35) against your current level on the Season 2 XP table.
- Budget for three costs: the unlock, the vendor price per tank, and resupply.
- Expect launchers: every enemy who kills your tank earns half its price.
- Read the 0.25 notes when they land: on limited servers, tanks will not be allowed at all.
Questions people ask
- How many tanks are in WARDOGS?
- Four tracked vehicles after Season 2 (update 0.2.0, 15 October 2026): the L2A6 and T-72B3 main battle tanks, the Flakpanzer Gepard anti-air vehicle and the SPH-2 artillery. The T-72B3 and Gepard were added in Season 2.
- What level do you get a tank in WARDOGS?
- Driver level 20 for the T-72B3 since Season 2, which takes 111,500 total role-track XP. The Gepard is Driver 25 and the SPH-2 Driver 31. The L2A6 comes after the Gepard; Season 1 put the 'Heavy Tank' at Driver 35.
- How much does the L2A6 cost?
- $22,000 per purchase since Season 2, up from $14,000. BULKHEAD's Season 2 notes do not restate its one-time unlock cost.
- How much is the artillery tank in WARDOGS?
- The SPH-2 artillery costs $350,000 to unlock at Driver level 31 since Season 2. It was $500,000 at WARDOG level 90 in Season 1. Its per-purchase price is not published.
- Were players banned for the tank XP exploit?
- Yes. PCGamesN reported on 16 October 2026 that players who abused the Season 2 Driver XP exploit 'extremely obtusely' received 24-hour bans. CEO Joe Brammer estimated fewer than a thousand players were affected.
- Will there be servers without tanks?
- BULKHEAD plans 'limited mode servers' in mid-season update 0.25, which would remove tanks, artillery, level-four armour and power weapons, per PCGamesN on 16 October 2026. No release date had been posted by 1 November 2026.
