Guide
WARDOGS system requirements: minimum and recommended specs, the 50 GB install, the frame-rate targets, and what each line means
The WARDOGS system requirements are published on the Steam listing with an unusual extra: a stated frame-rate target for each tier. Minimum hardware is expected to deliver '1080p Low @ 60fps (Upscaled)'; recommended hardware '1440p Medium @ 70fps+ (Native) or 4k Medium @ 60fps+ (Upscaled)'. That makes them more useful than most spec sheets, because you can tell what 'meets minimum' is supposed to feel like.
Below: the two tiers as listed on 13 September 2026, the install size, what the developer has said about performance, the platform position (Windows only), and the settings-related lines from the Season 1 changelog. No benchmarks of our own — none exist in a citable source — and no guesses about hardware the listing does not mention.
Minimum and recommended, as listed
Both tiers require a 64-bit processor and operating system and a broadband connection.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 (64-bit) | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5 8600 / AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | Intel Core i7 12700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5700X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Nvidia GTX 1660 / AMD Radeon RX 590 | Nvidia RTX 3070 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT |
| Storage | 50 GB available space | 50 GB available space |
| Network | Broadband Internet connection | Broadband Internet connection |
| Stated target | 1080p Low @ 60 fps (Upscaled) | 1440p Medium @ 70 fps+ (Native) or 4K Medium @ 60 fps+ (Upscaled) |
Reading the minimum tier
A Core i5 8600 is a six-core, six-thread Coffee Lake part from 2018; a Ryzen 5 3500 is a six-core Zen 2 part from 2019. The GTX 1660 and RX 590 are 6 GB and 8 GB cards from the same era. Sixteen gigabytes of RAM on both tiers is the notable number — many shooters list 8 GB minimum — and it is consistent with a 100-player, destructible map that has to hold a lot of world state. The target says 'Upscaled', so BULKHEAD is not claiming native 1080p at 60 fps on a 1660; it expects DLSS (named in the changelog) or another upscaler to be on.
Windows 10 is the floor and the listing does not name a build number. The anti-cheat runs alongside the game and, per the enforcement policy, validates 'that the game and your hardware haven't been tampered with'; a launch-week community guide titled 'Fix 1147405308 Error Access Denied' suggests some machines fail that check, and search interest in 'wardogs secure boot' points at the usual suspect, though no official statement names Secure Boot or TPM as a requirement. The crashing page tracks that.
Where the requirements sit against the genre
Without benchmarks we can still say what the listing implies. Requiring 16 GB at minimum and an eight-core recommended CPU puts WARDOGS above most 64-player shooters on paper; the reason is in the design — 100 players, three teams, a 256 km² map with destruction, buildable FOBs, and proximity voice for everyone in earshot. The recommended target of Medium rather than Ultra is unusual candour: BULKHEAD is telling RTX 3070 owners what preset to expect instead of implying the card maxes the game. And the 'Upscaled' qualifier on both tiers' higher targets tells you the engine leans on DLSS-class upscaling as a matter of course, not as an option for weak hardware.
Reading the recommended tier
Core i7 12700K (12 cores, 2021) or Ryzen 7 5700X (8 cores, 2022), RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT, Windows 11, still 16 GB. The target is either native 1440p at 70 fps or more on Medium, or upscaled 4K at 60 fps on Medium. Two things stand out: the recommended preset is Medium, not High or Ultra — BULKHEAD is not claiming what a 3070 does at Ultra — and the CPU jump is larger than the GPU jump, which again points at simulation cost rather than pixel cost. The settings guide covers what the changelog says about the expensive settings (shadows, frame generation).

Download size and install
The listing says 50 GB of available space for both tiers. The actual download is usually somewhat smaller than the on-disk figure, but no source publishes the download size; 50 GB is the number to plan for. Pre-load opened on 9 September 2026 at 22:46 UTC, the day before launch, so the 'wardogs preload' and 'download time' searches have a historical answer — there was a pre-load window — and a practical one: at 50 GB, allow the time your connection needs.
The beta client was a separate Steam app, 'WARDOGS Playtest' (listed 3 July 2026), which is not the game.
Storage, updates and the pre-load
The 50 GB is the install; patches come on top. In the first five days there were three client updates — the launch build, Hotfix #1 on 10 September (which forced every client to close and download), and patch 0.11 on 14 September — none with a published size. Pre-load opened on 9 September at 22:46 UTC, so buyers could stage the 50 GB before launch; the beta had used a separate 'WARDOGS Playtest' app, and its files did not become the release install. Plan for the full 50 GB again if you only had the beta.
What BULKHEAD says about performance
July 2026 devlog: 'Performance has been a priority for the entire team since day one… We've continuously optimised WARDOGS across a wide range of hardware. Graphics options let you tune the experience to YOUR PC. And so far, the response speaks for itself. Playtesters consistently tell us how surprised they are at how well it already performs.' February FAQ: the engine is Unreal Engine 5 with a custom 'War Dynamics Framework' for '100-player All Out Warfare', and the team is 'heavily conscious of performance & input latency'.
The Season 1 changelog is the concrete evidence of that work in the shipped build: DLSS Frame Generation now toggles without a restart; the render target pool is configurable; shadow cache refreshes were reduced to cut spawn hitching; shadow quality is clamped to Low rather than off on fast machines; two frame-generation crash paths were fixed; dropped items no longer affect navigation. Patch 0.11 adds 'More GPU crashes addressed'.
The anti-cheat as part of the requirement
The Steam listing does name it. Under the purchase box the store carries Valve's anti-cheat disclosure: 'Uses Kernel Level Anti-Cheat: Elytra' and 'Requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA', with the EULA linked from the store (read 13 September 2026). So the requirement is: Windows, a kernel-mode driver you must allow, and a third-party licence you must accept before the first launch.
Nothing on the Steam requirements list mentions it, but the enforcement policy on wardogs.com is explicit that anti-cheat 'runs alongside WARDOGS whenever you play online' and works by 'monitoring applications running on your machine during gameplay… and validating that the game and your hardware haven't been tampered with'. Practically, that means the game can refuse to start on a machine that fails validation — the 'Access Denied' error 1147405308 that a community guide covers — and that 'interfering with the anti-cheat software, blocking it, spoofing what it reports, or preventing it from running' is a ban. GamingOnLinux reported that BULKHEAD had used Easy Anti-Cheat and appeared to be testing an alternative; the studio has a dedicated anti-cheat page for compatibility. This is also why Linux is not supported: the anti-cheat's Proton module is the gate, not the game engine.
Platforms: Windows only
The Steam listing supports Windows and nothing else. Linux: BULKHEAD, 5 September 2026, 'We do not officially support Linux and we cannot commit to having support for launch. We are still working on Official Linux Proton compatibility… please, refund the game if you mistakenly bought it thinking you would be able to run Linux via Proton on September 10th.' Steam Deck follows from that — no Verified status and no official support. Mac: not listed. Consoles: 2028. Mobile: never mentioned by BULKHEAD; the 'war dogs mobile' searches are about the 2016 film or unrelated apps. The console page has the detail.
A checklist before buying
Everything on this page as eight yes/no questions.
- 64-bit Windows 10 or 11? (Only Windows is supported.)
- Six-core CPU at Core i5 8600 / Ryzen 5 3500 or better?
- 16 GB of RAM? (Both tiers require it.)
- GTX 1660 / RX 590 or better — and are you content with 1080p Low upscaled at that level?
- 50 GB free, plus room for patches?
- Broadband — the game is online-only with 100-player servers?
- No software that the anti-cheat will refuse to run beside?
- Not Linux, Steam Deck or Mac — or willing to refund if Proton does not work?
Languages and accessibility flags
Fourteen languages on the listing: English (full audio), French, Italian, German, Spanish – Spain, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese – Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Polish, Turkish, Ukrainian. Steam's feature badges include Camera Comfort, Custom Volume Controls, Stereo Sound, Surround Sound, Steam Achievements, Family Sharing, Multi-player, PvP and Online PvP. No controller-support badge as of the read date; BULKHEAD has discussed 'gamepad support' in its devlogs and applied helicopter input damping to 'every input device', which is as far as the official record goes.
